2866 families not allowed to resettle in risk prone areas
The Director of the national building research organization and the risk management division of the building research organisation RMS Bandara has cautioned 2866 affected families after the land slide threat to go back and settle in their risk prone homes. These families had been
living in risk a prone areas subjected to landslides.These families belong to 10 districts.The number of such families in Kegalle district are 1762,Kandy 652, Ratnapura 230, Nuwara Eliya 114, Matale 42,Kurunegala 31,Galle 15, while in Colombo and Gampaha districts 15.
It is also reported by the authorities of the national building research organisation that there are 661 vulnerable places in Badulla and Hambantota districts which are to be perused and they would be declared as risk and danger areas.
In the meantime there are cleaning up work that needed to be done in 38 grama sevaka divisions in Kolonnawa and in places at Avissawela,Seethawaka and Kaduwela. It is reported that over 1000 strong battalion from the civil defense organization have been deployed to clean up common places in these areas.This is a step to bring normalcy to life in these areas.
