The news of the Ranala Dedigamuwa landslide is fake but residents flee
Owing to the recent incessant rains and the landslide danger 13 families in the Ranala Dedigamuwa area have been evacuated and sent to safe refugee camps in the vicinity.
The related higher authorities of the national building research organization had made an inspection of the entire area of the hilly area and found out that still certain areas of the mountain are wet and
there is a danger that there may be a risk of a landslide.This Dedigamuwa hilly area is reckoned to be the highest in height in the entire Western Province in Sri Lanka.
It is reported that the residents had observed that there had been water flowing from the top of the hill downwards.But they had got panic as these had not been seen after the incessant rains.They also had observed that the water levels of the wells had risen to greater levels and then suddenly that had dropped to low levels.This was also a panic situation for them.
On the day before the Vesak poya day the security personnel of the Army and the Police had cautioned the people of the possibility of a land slide, then all had fled.
When the media had published a news item about the severe dangers of a land slide the residents had taken there belongings and come down to the bottom of the mountain area.It is reported that some had fallen and were injured.
It is also reported that a related authority of the national building research organization had come and inspected the hill area .But when he left he had not mentioned to anyone about the outcome of his findings.
