Death toll from land slides rises to 82

Although gradually the water levels of the Kelani river have been receding the death toll from land slides have been recorded as 82.

It is also reported that 29 people had been injured, while 118  people are reported missing or disappeared..  400 families have been completely displaced. In all 57590.families and 242927 peoples affected, while 398 houses have been destroyed completely.

The authorities of the Disaster Management Centre had cautioned the people living in the Ratnapura, Kegalle, Matale, Nuwara Eliya ,Kandy, kalutara  and Badulla districts to be cautious about possible land slides. However the water levels in the Kelani river are reported to be receding.
