Why can't Udayanga Weeratunga who had met Mahinda Rajapaksa in Thailand be caught?
The former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has been accused of
misappropriation of funds, irregular arms deals and murders.Internationally warrants have been issued to arrest him.The officers of the FCID had traveled to Ukraine to arrest him. During that time he had escaped to Thailand as he was having a diplomatic passport.However he had freely met former president Mahinda Rajapaksa during his visit to Thailand.
As he had been issued with warrants to arrest how is he moving freely is the question that had been asked from the cabinet media spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
At the cabinet media briefing the cabinet spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne had said this. When the FCID officers had gone to Ukraine to arrest him he had escaped to Thailand as he was having a diplomatic passport.The diplomatic passport he is having is valid until the year 2020.He appears to be taking advantage of it.
The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe had spoken in the parliament that the officials of the ministry of foreign affairs are making endeavours to cancel his diplomatic passport issued to him.After that he could b be arrested in terms of the international warrants issued.
