DV Upul files case against Ranjan Ramanayake claiming Rs 500 million as compensation

Ramanayake the Minister of fisheries of the southern provincial council DV Upul had filed a case in the Colombo district courts on the 19th instant claiming a sum of rupees 500 million for defamation of his character both politically and socially.The allegation of the provincial Councillor DV Upul is that on the 20th February 2016 the deputy minister Ranjan Ramanayake while addressing a media conference in Colombo had said that DV Upul had obtained a loan amounting to Rs 76 million and defaulted as a wilful defaulter.
During this media conference Ranjana Ramanayake had also said that DV Upul had taken this laon from the Lanka Puthra bank and defaulted repayment as agreed.He is also a person who had said in public that the FCID would be dissolved and the police including the IGP and higher ups would be stoned.
The attorney at law Buddhika Gamage appearing for DV Upul had said that Ranjan Ramanayake had harmed the political reputation of his client and also had defamed his social standing and hence this case was filed in the Colombo district courts claiming Rs 500 million as damages.
