Mother seeks school for her son, from the President -- Update
After the incident where the child who was deprived of a school on the grounds that he was suspected of AIDS in the town of Kuliyapitiya but was fortunate in finding a school, we reported of an instance a few days ago where following suit the same scene was
enacted by a mother who had sat on the ground with a child in her care in front of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.This child was blind in one eye and was short of hearing in one ear and having considered him as a disabled child was isolated from other normal children. Later his mother had notified about it to the President's Office and secured a school for the child. However, he had been removed from that school too in a few days. The mother had staged a protest with her child under the scorching sun in front of the President's Secretariat adjoining the Galle Face esplanade with the motive of placing her plea against injustice and thereby was able to draw the attention of the media. Later, under instructions of the President's Secretariat she was taken into custody by Fort Police because of the offence of subjecting the child to harm by keeping him in the sun.
The mother was produced before Colombo Magistrate's Court yesterday and Mrs. Chanima Wijeybandara, Additional Magistrate warned her thoroughly asking her not to expose children to cruelty by letting her son suffer from the unbearable heat of the sun and not to repeat such actions. TheMagistratee finally issued instructions for her to be released on a personal bail of Rs. 50,000. Ultimately it is this mother, Chandrika Goonawardena living in Mahavilachchiya, Anuradhapura who had to pay the bail without a school for her child.
