No water if the drought continues for another week
The convenor of the national water supply trade union alliance, engineer Upali Ratnayake had added that if the drought prevails for another week the supply of water would have to be restricted.
This would be because the water to the Labugama and Kalatuwawa water tanks would get restricted owing to the non availability of water received from rivers due to the water levels becoming lower.
This would result in the destruction of power as a result pumping of water would become difficult. In this regard the convenor Upali Ratnayake had said that at present there is water gallons ten lakhs one hundred and ten pumped out from one side of Ambatale tank and from the new side of the tank water gallons ten lakhs forty are pumped daily. From Kalatuwawa ten lakhs 15-25 are pumped out daily.
It is reported that the water level of the Kelani river is lowering and if there is no rain there is a likelihood of sea water getting contaminated with the water in the Kelani river.
In this context without inconveniencing the people plans are been drawn to provide water via browsers. The people are advised to take these facts into careful consideration and to use water carefully and sparingly.
