Be patient ....
the power-cut will be in operation only till Thursday morning
-- Minister of Electricity
Though the government has taken steps by now to suspend electricity according to a set schedule covering the whole island, the Minister of Power
and Renewable Energy Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has requested the public to exercise their patience since it would only be till tomorrow (17) morning only. He mentioned this yesterday on an observation tour he made on Norochchole Power Station. As Norochchole Power Station is being used to provide one-third of electricity requirement in the island, he said that this problem has come up and that every action has been taken to prevent such a state of affairs from tomorrow. He also stated that already three committees have been appointed in respect of this issue and that procedures are underway to extract a speedy solution and that there is no hurry right now to believe rumours circulating about the sudden incident that took place in Biyagama.
The Minister further remarked that he is sorry about the inconvenience caused and to be patient in this difficult situation. By now because of electricity being suspended for one whole period of working-hours for a day, the life of the masses has turned into a confused state of affairs and it has also resulted in this situation creating damage to the economy of the country on a large scale which is an irreversible loss that could not be prevented.
