Law student who 'lifted' ambulance ....
after a bet with Big Match friends .... nabbed!
A student pursuing studies at Law College was taken into custody by Kurunduwatta Police when in the process of illegally taking away an ambulance belonging to the National Eye Donation Society, day-before-
yesterday (06).The student concerned had committed this crime at a time when he had been highly drunk and what he had told the police was that he had taken a bet with friends with whom he had got involved for the Big Match and that the friends had challenged him to demonstrate himself by 'lifting' the ambulance. He had told the police that he had got hold of the ambulance this way for fun and that he gained no benefit by taking it away on the sly and so saying he had pleaded the police to release him.
The suspect law student was produced before the Chief Magistrate, Colombo yesterday (07) and had been released on a personal bond of Rs. 10 lakhs. After taking a bet with his drunk friends the suspect law student had despoiled this ambulance and the police who followed the vehicle were able to stop it near Bauddhaloka Mawatha and arrest him.
The suspect who had come to watch the match after the Colombo Ananda - Nalanda Big Match was over had left the S.S.C. grounds with the friends around 7.00 in the night. After leaving in that manner the suspect who had got intoxicated with the friends had taken this bet.
