Court issues orders to investigate into the allegation that Mahindananda had printed notes
The Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya has ordered the Police and the Criminal Investigations department to commence investigations to the alleged allegations into
misappropriation of huge amount of funds while the former Minister of sports and Member of Parliament for the Kandy district, Mahindananda Aluthgamage had held office as the minister during the tenure of the previous government. There had been complaints made by many quarters that the former Minister had acquired several assets, houses in Colombo in his name.In this regard the Chief Magistrate had ordered the Police and the CID to make inquiries about his bank accounts maintained locally and overseas. The main complaint has been made to the FCID by Wasantha Samarasinghe the convenor of "Dushana Wiroda Handa"in regard to the accumulation of so much wealth during a short period.
When a case was taken up the Chief Magistrate courts in Colombo Gihan Pilapitiya has added that this is something like money laundering and to commence investigations. In this regard statements from 16 persons had already been recorded by the CID. The CID had found out that large sums of money had been deposited by the former minister of sports in local and foreign banks and from them he had purchased lands and assets from Colombo. In this regard a statement has been submitted to courts by the CID. The CID had requested for a courts order giving permission to peruse his bank accounts here and in overseas.
The Chief magistrate giving this order had requested to furnish a report on the findings of his bank accounts.
