The plastering of  Sigiriya 'frescos' breaks

The officials of the Archaeological department have revealed that the previous old plastering of the historical Sigiriya frescos had fallen off  to the ground on the 28th instant.

In this regard a Sigiriya tourist advisor had said that certain parts of the plastering had ruptured and
had fallen on to the net that is fixed alongside the frescos. The pieces of plaster had pierced through the net on to the  climbing steps.

The tourists who had come to visit Sigiriya frescos had been stopped for about an hour  and the Archaeological staff members had collected the broken parts of the plaster into shopping bags and kept aside was what the Sigiriya tourist advisor had said.

In this connection the Assistant Director of Archaeological department of central province LM Gunatilake was contacted in this regard on the 28th instant. What he had said was that an old plaster had ruptured surrounding the frescos. A group of Archaeological officers had been sent from the  central archaeological office on an inspection and to take any remedial action.
