Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Harsha de Silva revealed at a press meeting today that a change has been effected in the punishment as
informed by the Saudi Government concerning the Sri Lankan woman who was to be stoned to death in Saudi Arabia which news incidentally caused a sensation recently.She was to be stoned to death according to the law of that country for having maintained an illicit connection with a man. However this decision has been revoked and it has been decided by that government to give her only a jail term instead, the Minister said. It was reported that this decision has been arrived at after considering an appeal in a Saudi Arabian court of law yesterday.
