imprisonment for alleged assault on a student. The assistant principal and the two teachers had appealed against the verdict and after it was heard in the appeal court all three had been proved innocent as they had acted in self defence and hence the sentence was withdrawn. This sentence of imprisonment had beam made on the vice principal and teacher in charge of the science Gamini Wijesuriya and two teachers Shantha Kumara and Ariyapala.
It is learnt that the student in question had attended school in coloured clothing and had been needlessly loitering in the swimming pool area. When the assistant principal had questioned the student there had been an argument which had resulted in the student been beaten. In this context the Magistrate in the appeal courts had said that the student had been assaulted by the three teachers in self defence and hence for it a punishment like imprisonment is too huge and discharged them from the alleged incident.
