Gas shortage after decrease in price of gas from budget

The budget proposals for the year 2016 were made by the Minister of Finance on the 20th instant in the parliament. Accordingly the price  of a 12.5 kg gas cylinder was reduced to Rs 1346/- with effect from 23rd instant.

Before the budget a 12.5kg gas cylinder was priced  Rs 1456/-.A gas cylinder 5 kg in weight was Rs 560/- has ben reduced by Rs 60/- while a 2.5kg which was Rs 273/- was reduced by Rs 27/-

Before the budget proposals were announced the dealers had been on the stand that the prices would  be increased and hence they had hidden their stocks. However what the dealers anticipated did not happen.

As a result there had been a severe shortage of all types of gas cylinders at gas outlets in an around Colombo.
