Kumbukgete incident: warrant issued to arrest provincial council MP ....

who assaulted Samanmalee, Lakshman ... immediately!

The incident where the North-West MP Kamal Indika had tried to assault a group of 'ape parapure'
artistes including Lakshman Wijesekera and Samanmali Fonseka in Kurunegala Kumbukgete area at a time when a promotion campaign was in progress for the Presidential Elections in December last year incidentally created a big uproar. The video connected to that incident too had circulated across the social media and when the media questioned him at that time it was said that there was no assault committed.

He had told the media that he was not connected to the assault and that he only intervened to settle a conflict and that it was the crowd of people in the 'pola' who was responsible for the said attack, thus expressing his innocence. However, when this case was being investigated under the new government he had accepted all guilt and had said that he wishes to apologise to all artistes involved in the incident. This he said at the court-hearing in courts last 13th. Whatever it is, this person who made such a statement had subsequently made another statement to a newspaper just a few days later to the effect that he would not ask pardon but would only express his regret.

Yesterday when this case was called, this suspect had tried to avoid being present in courts. Though Samanmali and Lakshman Wijesekera together with other artistes were present for the plaintiff party, the North-West provincial Council MP Kamal Indika was missing. After the plaintiff party took steps to forward newspaper reports which provided evidence that he is not prepared to accept his guilt to the incident accompanied by the relevant photographs and video, Kurunegala Chief Magistrate Miss Geethani Wijesingha came to the decision that the North-West Provincial Council MP Kamal Indika be immediately taken into custody and produced before courts, thus issuing a warrant in that respect.
