Arjuna removes Lotus flower bringing novelty
to airport ....
saying it is a waste (video)
It is reported that the roof of the terminal which takes the shape of a massive lotus flower expected to be newly erected as the roof of the terminal
building at the Katunayaka Bandaranaike International Airport which had been estimated at a cost of a huge sum of two thousand two hundred million of which work is in progress has been discontinued by Minister Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga considering it as an unnecessary expenditure. In fact, Arjuna had arrived at this conclusion at the time he was the Minister of Aviation some months ago.He had stated that apart from displaying an aspect of beauty for which it is erected, this huge lotus flower which costs a sum of 2200 million serves no other purpose. When enquiring as to who is able to enjoy the beauty of the lotus flower, the authorities concerned had responded saying that it is only the pilots who are able to see it and that it is something that could not be seen by those coming to or going out of the airport.
It had been planned by the previous government for this to be erected with a special type of metal in an attractive way. Since it is absolutely of no use to construct something of this nature by expending such a big sum of money, the Minister has issued instructions that it be removed from the plan envisaged. The terminal of the airport is equipped with modern facilities and comprise of three levels and a different type of roof with low cost would be installed instead.
Shown below is the video with the computer structure of the building with the lotus flower-shaped roof.
