Criticisms in the whole area ....

about murdered Wasantha Zoysa's night club

Karate champion Wasantha Zoysa (57) who etched his name in the Guinness Records Book was murdered yesterday in Anuradhapura with a sharp instrument.

The night club 'Panorama' belonging to him was one of a sophisticated nature. While young men were dancing throughout the nights under liquor, it is reported that until morning an environment of indiscipline is to be observed around the area. The night club situated down Muditha Mawatha is in fact at seeing distance of the Sri Maha Bodhi.

Discussions took place during the past in parliament that this night club is something that should be taken away and that it is not suitable for the holy land there. At that time the owner of this night club Mr. Wasantha Zoysa addressed the media and responded by making the statement "is aathal good for Colombo boys only ... is it baiyos who are in Anuradhapura?" Initially this night club was being conducted on an illegal basis and at a later stage Wasantha had taken measures to obtain the necessary license from the government, it was reported. As a result of yesterday's incident a manager of the night club and 2 other employees had faced injuries and admitted to the Anuradhapura Base Hospital and are still under treatment. The injured are from Punchikulama and Buttala areas. Because of this attack the night club had sustained immense damage and it is estimated to be in millions.

The police do not have a good word about this night club of Karate champion Wasantha who was murdered. The police say that they receive about four or five complaints of assault and other incidents in relation to the night club for a week and that the murdered Wasantha himself was a person who terrorised the Anuradhapura area. The police who conduct investigations have mentioned that the deceased has entered into conflict with those who patronised the night club as well as well as with the security personnel and such incidents have been recorded in the police book. Wasantha had been involved with a certain officer of the security of Dahaiyagama in Anuradhapura for sometime. The police have received complaints that females in service at this night club too have been at the receiving end of assaults. At the moment when the crime took place there had been 8 young girls serving that night and there is information received that in recent times the police have raided this night club several times.

The night club being situated on holy soil there had provoked a big protest by people of the area regarding this night club. Opinions are scattered that Wasantha Zoysa the Karate champion's death from the attack by about 20 people armed with swords and knives yesterday and the aggressive behaviour in which the night club was maintained may be cited as the reasons in this case. The police are still involved in finding out who was involved in this crime from among the large crowd of people who are against him.

57 year old Wasantha who is the father of two children is one of the three chief Karate supervisors who represent Shin Kyokushin Karate Organisation in Sri Lanka. Wasantha who happens to be a competent Karateka who brought fame to Sri Lanka by instituting ten Guinness Records in the sport of Karate during the past 10 years was expected to participate at the World Karate Championships scheduled to be held in Japan next 28th and had been preparing to establish 10 other Guinness Records after returning to the country.
