Understand Hitler going out ... Chaplin coming in
as you wish
- Jackson Anthony
What was implied by a poster pasted recently
across towns in Sri Lanka was the statement "Hitler departed -- Chaplin enters .... Sri Lanka has no address". The said poster though had been pre-publicized for a cinema creation, the strong idea expressed by it motivates a person to visualize the political revolution which took place in the past in this country. The creator of this film is supposed to be Jackson Anthony who is someone who had worked in close association with 'Hitler'. The ideas he has expressed in association with the said poster and the film for a weekend newspaper is as follows:
* Actually who is it that doesn't have an address in this instance?
My discussion is about followers who don't have addresses in Sri Lanka. I am trying to give a political meaning to the vagabond-type term which says that they don't have an address.
* What is said by the statement "Hitler went ... Chaplin entered", is it about that politics?
Artistes make use of allusions. Who Hitler is and who Chaplin is, is something that is made clear in the minds of the audience.
* What was meant by saying Hitler left, is the former President? Saying Chaplin came refers to the induction of the present President?
I initially wanted to name my film, 'Hitler Chaplin'. The two characters Hitler and Chaplin affects my film in a dual manner. My two characters are Hitler of the Nazis and the begging Chaplin.
* Didn't Jackson also lose the address because of the last political upheaval?
Though it is thought that Jackson Anthony has lost his address .... can't it be seen that Jackson Anthony has not lost his address? Not only Jackson Anthony .... no one can remove any artiste's address. The reason for that is that artistes are safeguarded, dependent and are made to develop on their vocation. Ability is something that is stabilized on one's own study. Unless one purposely loses his or her address .... no one else can remove an artiste's address.
* Are there such characters who don't have addresses in Sri Lankan politics also?
Certainly. There had been characters in the political society in Sri Lanka who didn't have addresses like that. Even today there are .... it is expected in the future also.
* Is it a good situation for politicians who don't have addresses to rule the country?
People without addresses remaining in a country is not a good situation.
