Permission from courts to go to Singapore hospital ....
for Sajin who continuously was not allowed bail
It is now several months since former MP Sajin Vas Gunawardena who was arrested and
remanded during the past 100 Day period on suspicion of having misused vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat. There is also an allegation against him for having misappropriated funds in an illegal manner.During the time he was in jail, neither those of the Mahinda faction nor those of the Maithri faction cared to visit him and he was not even given the nominations. Though the media reported that he was afflicted by a skin ailment when he was in prison and therefore he had to sleep on the floor, he had been healthwise in a safe and sound condition. A few days before this he had mentioned that he wants to make a special statement creating a sensational curiosity that he is prepared to leak out certain old matters pertaining to Mahinda.
Since Sajin Vas was in a sick condition, his attorneys-at-law had on a number of occasions requested that he be given bail; but the request was not granted. In the meantime, Mr. Sajin Vas Gunawardena has been given permission to travel to Singapore for 5 days by Chief Magistrate Mr. Gihan Pilapitiya, today (20). On a request made by him yesterday (19) to travel to Singapore for a period of 7 days for the purpose of medical treatment, the magistrate after considering the relevant facts had granted him permission in that respect.The magistrate has informed that a report concerning his medical treatment be forwarded to the courts. This temporary permission has been afforded to Sajin Vas Gunawardena by courts while a prohibition has already been issued in connection with overseas travel.
